Host Paul Booth reviews SXSW sensation (Speical Jury-Prize Winner) from HBO Documentary films: ERNIE AND JOE: CRISIS COPS

Ernie and Joe’s jail diversion work is humane and desperately needed to improve not only the health of the mentally ill, but also of their families. Drawing on their own experiences, the duo has learned that the old ways of policing and dealing with mental health issues weren’t working. The issues they face as a department are the issues every community and police department in the country faces. The two officers and their colleagues in this unique department provide hope and inspiration at a time when we need it most, and show that great ideas and inspiration can come from any corner of the country.

We hope you will take a moment and become inspired and discover these two  officers who are making change in policing in America, and revolutionizing the way law enforcement deals with mental health calls. Many films illustrate the multitude of sins in police departments across the country, but ERNIE & JOE: CRISIS COPS, allows you to meet these incredible officers who are trying and succeeding in doing good and truly making an impact.
